“Our minds can measure what we will lose but they can’t measure what we will gain.” – Kyle Cease
The time you start to feel like you’re ready to quit your 9 to 5 and pursue something more meaningful can be the most challenging part of your entire journey, from ‘stuck and unfulfilled’ employee to ‘happy and on purpose’ business owner. It’s where most give up.
You begin to realise just how attached to your salary you are, the little perks your company offers and the general security you feel from getting a pay check every week.
It’s the dance between fear and taking a leap of faith. These are the defining moments of our lives. Will I stay or will I jump?
I felt extreme frustration, overwhelm, guilt and sadness when I finally decided to quit my job at the online dating company. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. I was earning close to six figures, got 4 weeks holiday a year and frankly, I was very comfortable. On top of that, I was nearing 30 years old, so…yeah I had to think about having children and if I did how would I provide for them. So many thoughts running through my head. The thought of quitting a secure job seemed CRAZY, even to me! But I couldn’t shake this feeling and deep knowing I had inside of me, that there was something better out there for me. Something that would challenge me but also fill my cup up. Personally, spiritually and also financially.
I’ve accumulated a lot of experiences over my 30 years of life. Lots of heartbreak, friends betraying me, family betraying me, fixing an unhealthy lifestyle, earning six figures in my corporate job etc.), I had so much wisdom I wanted to share with women, all around the world, to help them improve their quality of life but I didn’t know how to offer it or package it up in a way that would serve me, as much as it would serve them.
That’s when I found The Six Figure Mentors.
Their online education, teaching aspiring entrepreneurs, people looking to leave their 9 to 5 or ball and chain business’, how to break free from their unfulfilling life and take back their power, simply by leveraging the internet and starting a purpose-driven online business is a TOTAL GAME-CHANGER.
Their education and mentorship is what took me from ‘stuck and unfulfilled’ (jumping from job to job), to ‘happy and on purpose’ (running a purpose-driven biz with my ideal clients)!
Here are three tips to help you overcome the fear of quitting your 9 to 5 and pursuing a life with more meaning and joy. (I personally used these to help me invest in myself and quit my 9 to 5).
1. Never settle. Comfort doesn’t equal happiness.
No matter how good those company perks are, no matter how good those weekly pay checks are, no matter how many weeks off a year you get (most people only get 2 if they’re lucky!) none of it will ultimately matter when you’re faced with life challenges and choices that your 9 to 5 won’t support you in.
If you’ve ever had roommates, you’ll understand that having a choice of where you live is one of life’s ULTIMATE perks. Working in my 9 to 5. I had to have roommates. I simply couldn’t afford to live on my own and pay all my bills alone.
But you and I both know, this isn’t about money. I was earning close to six figures and was miserable. I’d spent years of my life putting others first, helping other people build their business. I was investing so much energy in projects and people, yet I felt my life was mediocre at best. How could this be?
It’s because your comfort zone doesn’t equal happiness. It equals acceptance. If you’re comfortable that means you’ve accepted where you are at.
Your happiness comes from acheiving goals or setting standards for your life that you won’t give up on. The best analogy of this is when you’re waiting for Mr. Right. There may be lots of good guys out there and you can be comfortable with all of them but will that make you happy? No, it won’t. Settling for less than what you know you deserve or what you know you are capable of, is robbery. Robbery of your soul’s purpose. Don’t do it. The perks of your 9 to 5 are comforting but they will never give you the fulfilment and freedom you’re longing for.
2. Don’t surrender to your ego. Let your faith fight for you.
Kyle Cease said it best, when he said, “Our minds can meausre what we will lose but they can’t measure what we will gain.”
Your mind (or ego) will measure everything you’re attached to in your life. For example, you may be attached to your salary. You may be attached to your peer group circle. You may be attached to the feeling of leaving your income in the hands of your employer. You may be attached to all the hard work you’ve put in to even have the job the you have today. It can seem crazy to quit on something you’ve invested so much time and energy into.
What your mind can’t do is measure what you’ll stand to gain as a result of investing in yourself, staying consistent and upskilling yourself in a new project you may be really passionate about.
So, for everything you stand to lose, you can gain:
- Giving back
Let your faith fight for you.

3. Experiment with ingredients before you bake the cake!
Ok that’s a bad analogy but you get my drift (I hope 😂)
What I’m trying to say is don’t just up and quit your job with ZERO back up plan and zero direction of where you’re heading. It’s really important you know what options (ingredients) are available for you to go out and make your dreams a reality.
For me, it was trying everything under the sun. I worked weekends for nearly 12 months and spent one Christmas Eve building a strategy for the online dating company I was working for, to grow their social media channels and team, based in Nairobi, Kenya. They were about to fly me over there before I quit. I could have had a free trip to Africa (my dream destination) but I chose to take a leap of faith and work on building my own dreams instead of building someone elses’.
I tried starting a Facebook Advertising Agency, where I ran ads for service-based business’. I tried networking marketing (for a company called Isagenix. You’ve probably heard of it?) But none of it filled my soul up. None of them felt quite right.
That’s when Tha Happiness Guide was born. It was through my education with The Six Figure Mentors, that I was able to create something that was purpose-driven, aligned with my values and that I felt deeply passinonate about. Not only that it was the best solution for my ideal customer (here’s a little hint: You’re ideal customer is usually a former version of you).
Tha Happiness Guide promotes The Six Figure Mentors and Digital Experts Academy trainings and mentorship inexchange for a commission. They taught me how to sell online and market online, without actually having my own product first. This was a game changer for me! I was able to earn an income online without having my own product. Did I say GAME-CHANGERRRR?!
I wish more boss babes, like you, knew this was available to them, before they spent thousands on trying to build a personal brand with no product to sell, or before they went out and built a service-based business that drained them more than it filled them up.
