If you’ve ever had the thought that there has to be something better out there for you then it’s probably because there is…
If you’re an ambitious boss babe who knows you’re meant for more than working a 9 to 5, building someone else’s dream for the rest of your life, than you’re already half way there. most people are unaware of the wakeup, eat, work, sleep repeat pattern they’ve been conditioned into so if you’re thinking about more you’re awake to the fact that there has to be something better out there for you and I assure you there is!
Being aware that you want more out of life and being curious about how to achieve that is key.
There seems to be 3 main blocks holding people back from achieving their dreams and I break them all down in this article.
By identifying your dream blockers, you’ll be able to make the necessary changes and make progress on those dreams that you deserve to fulfill!
“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney.
Courage is what dreams are made of and in order to live your dreams, you must be courageous enough to pursue them. A common belief at the core of the 3 main dream blockers I’m about to share with you is, “I can’t have it all.”
If you’ve ever wanted or dreamed about something, I guarantee you someone has achieved what you want, with the same or worse circumstances than you. Think about it…
Unless you’re dream is completely unique or never been done before, there’s a safe bet someone has acheived what you want to acheive which is great news because that confirms it’s possible!
There may just be a couple of blocks standing between you and your dreams…
Block #1 – Lack of self-esteem and confidence
A lack of self-esteem and confidence is the number one reason most people don’t pursue their dreams. There are a few ways lack of self-esteem and confidence shows up in our life and if left unmanaged, can harm your growth and success in life.
1. Caring what others think
Caring what others think of you can result in anxiety that stops you from taking action and making progress. If you’re crippled by other people’s opinions, it’s time to go to work on why this might be happening and healing this so you can move forward in life and create that dream life and business you’ve been dreaming about!
2. Fear of not belonging
Fear of not belonging is what most mistake for a for a fear of failure. We are more afraid of acheiving our dreams than not because what if we do succeed? That means we won’t belong where we used to. Each success story requires growth and if you’re not growing you’re staying the same. Fear of not belonging to a community or tribe or particular social circle is a huge reason people don’t step outside their comfort zones. If you take away that support or acceptance it will challenge someone’s identity and that’s the tought part. We all identify with something or someone. As human beings we like to identify with groups because it makes us feel as if we belong.
3. Not keeping promises to yourself
Not keeping a promise to yourself will immediately result in a lack of confidence because it means you can’t trust yourself. Trusting yourself and self-confidence go hand in hand. I encourage you to set small tasks to acheive. If you consistently keep your promise on fulfilling those tasks, your confidence will increase.
4. Toxic relationships
Toxic relationships where you don’t feel heard, seen, supported or loved will inevitably take its toll on your self-esteem, holding you back from pursuing your dreams or worse, even believing you’re worthy of them.
Self-esteem and confidence are not set traits. They are more like a muscle. The more you exercise them the stronger they’ll get. You can’t cure low self-esteem or confidence with your thinking mind. It can only be improved over time with inspired action. The best cure for confidence, I’ve ever heard, is to focus on something small you can change or acheive today and ignore the rest.
People tend to compare themselves to others a lot and this is counterproductive because you can never be someone else or be better than someone else, you can only be a better YOU. Build your self-esteem by challenging yourself and committing to your own personal growth and never underestimate the power of following through with a promise you’ve made to yourself.
Block #2 – Lack of resources
A lack of resources is another block that might be holding you back from pursuing your dream. But like Tony Robbins always says a lack of resources is never the problem, rather a lack of resourcefulness.
Maybe you have savings or a job that would allow you to borrow money to start a business but stepping out of your comfort zone and following your own creative pursuits feels overwhelming and like a pipe-dream. What tends to happen is solopreneurs that do have a bit of capital, start a business but fail to grow the business. Almost 90% of businesses owned by women generate no more than $100,000 yearly.
It’s a shame because it’s not that they fail due of a lack of talent, skill or leadership abilities, they fail simply because of a lack of resourcefulness. Joining a community of like-minded people who have acheived what you would like to acheive is crucial to your own personal growth as well as the growth of any business venture you pursue.
When I first started Tha Happiness Guide, I partnered with Mentors, an online community of driven entrepreneurs starting online business’ from scratch. Being a part of this community was the difference between me failing and succeeding. They answered any question I had almost immediately and there was always someone ready to help when I needed it. It’s only $97 per month to become a member and what you gain far outweighs this investment. I was able to grow my business without going into debt with mentorship and a community who has already been there done that.
Block #3 – Lack of support
If you’ve ever thought about starting a business or carving your own unique path in life and you’re terrified to share your work with the world, it may be because of a lack of support. You can’t become yourself, by yourself.
The single biggest defining factor in most people’s success stories is the community of people supporting and cheering them on. The old school saying, that says ‘If you want something done, you have to do it yourself, is completely outdated and is rooted in victimhood. The truth is if you want something big done, you need to outsource, ask for help and seek support! We simply can’t run business’, grow personally and professionally, completely alone.
Being part of a driven community of like-minded people can be the catalyst for your dreams to truly come alive. Your future depends on the people you surround yourself with today.
If you feel you have any of these 3 dream blockers holding your back from getting started then you’ll want to do the work to free yourself of them. Without clearing these blocks, you’ll continue to play small and live life wondering what if…
So, where do you begin freeing yourself from these blocks?
By taking small steps towards your dream or vision. Getting started is the hardest but once you have momentum it becomes easier and easier to keep going.
Manifestation and law of attraction is cool but getting in the game, doing the work and committing yourself to achieving your goals with a ‘no matter what’ attitude is what will get your from where you are to where you want to be.
